  • How much does it cost?  Prices begin at $300 for a traditional portrait

  • How to order a portrait?  See How to Order a Portrait

  • How to pay?  Credit card, money order, cashier's check, personal check, or cash.   A 10% start-up fee is required.  You will be shown, via e-mail, photos of the painting as it progresses.  For larger or more complex portraits, there may be stages of completion where the client would approve the progress of the painting and make a partial payment.  This schedule would be part of the agreement before the work would start.  Satisfaction is guaranteed.

  • How long does it take?  You should expect to wait 6 to 8 weeks for completion of the traditional portrait (sizes 18"x24" or below).  You should expect to wait some months for the completion of a "cutout" painting. Larger paintings require more time.

  • Clothing, background, etc. can be changed to create the perfect portrait.

  • You can choose from a variety of canvas sizes.

  • Other sizes and more complex compositions will  take more time to paint and will, therefore, cost more. Some of the cost factors will be discussed below using the portrait examples shown.  These costs will be discussed and agreements will be made before any work is started.

  • the cost of shipping is extra and will include the cost of the postage, insurance and the shipping box.   These costs will be discussed and agreements will be made before any work is started.

  • framing and any travel costs are additional

a discussion of some factors that affect the cost of a portrait:

Traditional Portraits

This is an example of a simple 14" x 18" oil portrait.  The portrait is of the head and shoulders only.

This is an example of a simple 16" x 20" oil portrait.  The portrait is of the head and shoulders only.  The intricate fabric of the cloth has been changed to a more simple design.

This is an example of a 18" x 24" oil portrait of a single figure from the waist up.  The larger size, the scenery, the glasses and the hands increase the complexity of this painting.

"cutout" portraits

  • This is a "cutout" or "outline" painting.

  • There is no background.

  • The house becomes a part of the painting.

  • Change the lighting, the texture, the pattern, the color of the background and the appearance of the painting changes.

See "cutout" paintings for more info.

The base price for a short-hair pet portrait would be less than the price or a long-hair pet portrait.

Small portraits usually cost less than larger ones - but not always.   There comes a point where it becomes more difficult to work smaller.

**********

The amount of skin and the complexity of the clothing affect the cost of a portrait.

The detail in the cutout, the skateboard, the clothing and the glasses affect the cost of thts painting

See "cutout" paintings for more info.

**********

A non-refundable start-up fee is required to cover the cost of materials (10 percent of the price for a small cutout portrait up to a maximum start-up fee of $100 for a larger cutout portrait)

"construct" portraits

  • The "construction" or "construct" piece combines "outline" or "cutout" portraits (see cutout portraits) with scenery constructed from mixed media.

  • There is no background.

  • The  outline portraits are painted in oil on plywood that has been reinforced with metal to control warping.

(see construct portrait for more info)

The cost of a "construct" painting will be proportional to the complexity of the piece.  Please communicate with the artist at terry@terrylefler.com  to discuss a project.
