a discussion of some
factors that affect the cost of a portrait:
(click on the image for a higher resolution image) This is an
example of a simple 10" x 13" oval oil portrait. The portrait
is of the head and shoulders only and is painted on "hardboard"
especially made for paintings. The cost for this portrait
would be around $300 US dollars.
The cost of an 11 x 14 rectangular portrait would begin at $350. (plus shipping and any agreed to extras, such as framing.)
(click on the image for a higher resolution image) This is an example of a simple 14" x 18" oil portrait. The portrait is of the head and shoulders only. The cost for this portrait would be around $400 US dollars. (plus shipping, handling, and any agreed to extras - such as framing.)
(click on the image for a higher resolution image) This is an example of a simple 16" x 20" oil portrait. The portrait is of the head and shoulders only. The intricate fabric of the cloth has been changed to a more simple design. The cost for this portrait would be around $450 US dollars . (plus shipping, handling, and any agreed to extras - such as framing.)
(click on the image for a higher resolution image) This 16" x 20" oil portrait of 2 children and a simple background. The cost for this portrait would be around $500 US dollars. (plus shipping, handling, and any agreed to extras - such as framing.)
(click on the image for a higher resolution image) This is an example of a 18" x 24" oil portrait of a single figure from the waist up. The larger size, the scenery, the glasses and the hands increase the complexity of this painting. This portrait would cost about $550 US dollars. (plus shipping, handling, and any agreed to extras - such as framing.) (click on the image for a higher resolution image) This is an example of a
36" x 48" oil portrait of a single figure. The
larger size, the scenery in the background, and the "full figure"
require a much larger effort and, therefore, increase the cost
significantly. The cost for this
type of portrait would vary with prices beginning at $3500 US dollars.
The time required to produce this size painting would be significantly longer than for the smaller paintings and would vary according to the amount of detail. In addition, a non refundable deposit would be required before beginning a large project such as this. The initial non-refundable deposit would be approximately $200. There would be another non-refundable $200 deposit after the customer had approved the painting when it was approximately 1/3 of the way to completion. (NOTE: a 24" x 36" oil portrait of a single figure would start at about $2000 US dollars.)

See "cutout" paintings for more info. The cost of a portrait like the one show above would be around $2,700 US dollars (plus shipping). The cost will vary significantly depending on the size and complexity of the image.
The base price for a pet portrait would be around $400 US dollars. This would be for a short-hair pet like the black lab mix shown below.
