Can you love Jesus too much?

I have discovered the meaning of life.  Why did God create the universe and us?  Why did He go to all that trouble?  And why does He put up with us?

The Bible (NIV) says, in Ephesians 2:20-22, “Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God’s people and members of God’s household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone.  In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord.  And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.”

God is building a dwelling for God’s Spirit!

As Christians we have the “earnest of our salvation” in the indwelling of the Holy Spirit now.  The Holy Spirit is also the earnest of what we will become.  The life that we live now “in the Spirit” is only a preview of the future.

Our very purpose in life is to be “built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.”

Notice that we are not “the dwelling” but rather “a dwelling”.  God is a Spirit and is everywhere present.  That means that He fills the entire universe.  It may be that God has built, and is building, “a dwelling” for His Spirit in a gazillion other parts of the universe.

The fulfillment of our destiny doesn’t come until we have our new immortal bodies in heaven.  We will be linked together “by the Spirit of Christ” to become “a dwelling” for God’s Spirit.

Our work in eternity is to be a dwelling place for God!

And now that I have learned the meaning of life, my prayer is, “Please Lord, help me to move over and make room for You.
